Sport in York |
 |
 |
One of York’s
most treasured features is its racecourse.
The racecourse, located at Knavesmire, is testament
to a truly sporting city and should be the first port
of call for those looking for an enjoyable and sometimes
monetarily rewarding day out.
A sporting visit wouldn’t be complete without a
visit to the Huntingdon Stadium, Huntingdon Road.
Here you can see the mighty York Knights rugby
league team who continue to go from strength to strength
or the less impressive but still entertaining York
City Football Club.
For those who want to get involved there’s a
range of sporting clubs in the city ranging from angling to archery and badminton to bowls.
Kids are not forgotten either and there’s a number
of kids clubs and holiday clubs designed to get them interested in sport and hopefully
tire them out.
Swimming is a sport that everybody can enjoy, no
matter what his or her ability. There are three value
swimming pools in York owned by York City Council. The
York Barbican Centre [map],
Barbican Road, has a climbing wall and a health
and beauty suite as well as two swimming pools.
Yearsley Swimming Pool [map] on Haxby Road offers total fitness management and staff
are on hand to ensure you get the very best from your
visit and exercise safely.
The Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool [map] is located in Acomb just 10 minutes from the city centre.
This large pool incorporates a fitness suite and is the
perfect place for burning a few calories.
If you prefer your exercise gentle there’s a
range of designated walks in York.
Get out on the Moors for camping and rambling. There are also opportunities
for some more extreme activities such as mountain
biking and bungee-jumping.
