Sandwich Bars in York |
 |
 |
Take the stress out
of shopping with a pit-stop at a sandwich bar in the
city centre. Offering everything from potatoes to pasta
to pasties you’ll find something to suit your
hunger or if you’re just looking for a simple
cup of coffee or tea you’ll be spoilt for choice.
York has its fair share of familiar names from O’Briens and Café Nero to Starbucks.
There’s also a great choice of independent venues
offering something a little different.
Try The Danish Kitchen [map],
High Ousegate, for a variety of open sandwiches and unusual
pastries.
If you want to wile away a few hours and fancy something
more than a sandwich visit Mason’s Bistro Bar [map],
Fossgate, for Mediterranean-inspired cuisine and bright
comfortable surroundings.
For a taste of France drop by Delifrance [map],
at Low Petergate, which provides a range of inviting baguettes
and tasty pastries to hungry shoppers.
With views over the river and al fresco dining in the
warmer months a visit to City Screen [map],
Coney Street, can tempt you away from the crowds for some
great and unusual dishes. The bar is located beneath the
cinema and is an ideal place to sup a beer on a hot day
and watch the world go by.
If you prefer traditional tea shops you’re well
catered for with a variety dotted throughout the city
centre. For a treat, why not visit the famous Betty’s
Tea Rooms [map] at St Helen’s Square. Be prepared for a lengthy
wait to experience Betty’s famous hospitality.
If you’re on a sightseeing tour of York a visit
to The Earl Grey Tea Rooms [map] is a must. The quaint tea rooms are located within the
heart of The Shambles and provide a great atmosphere
spot from which to indulge in your favourite tea, coffee
or snack.
For a spot of culture visit the café bar at York Theatre Royal [map],
St Leonard’s Place. The design of the bar might
make you feel like you’re sitting in a goldfish
bowl but it’s the perfect location from which to
view the splendid exterior of The York City Museum opposite.
