If you’re
looking for a fun evening out make sure you visit Jacks
Tapas Bar [map],
Castlegate. This gay-friendly bar is a lively venue offering
a full range of delicious tapas and some excellent Spanish
lagers to wash it down with. If you don’t want the
evening to end take advantage of the accommodation above
the bar that offers a comfortable and central alternative
to staying outside of the city walls.
For some real fun check out The Bay Horse [map],
Gillygate, which has gained a reputation as York’s
premier gay pub. Offering great meals during the day and
a quiet pint in the afternoon, The Bay Horse comes alive
in the evening with great alcoholic deals and some of
York’s more colourful characters in attendance.
This is a great place to make friends and if you’re
the sociable type you’ll be planning a return visit
on your way out of the door.
The York Arms [map],
High Petergate located in the shadow of The Minster, is
a gay-friendly bar that appeals to the more mature visitor.
If you’re looking to dance the night away Toffs
[map],
Toft Green, plays host to Idols, its designated
gay night once a month. This is the place to glam it up
and get ready to boogie.
Velvet [map], based at City Screen, Coney Street, is
a women’s only night held once a month. The disco
takes place in the basement bar, which is an intimate
venue away from the crowds of the city centre.
