Football in York |
 |
 |
York citizens love
their football and even though York City might not be the best team in the world supporters continue
their loyalty to it.
Get down to the Huntingdon Road Stadium [map] to see
a York City match and make use of the nearby sports shop
to get your latest York City strip or for less loyal supporters
the latest kits from Premiership teams.
In the city centre there’s the usual choice of
famous name sports shops including an enormous JJB and an Allsports. Here you can find
your top named brands including Adidas, Nike and Mitre.
If you’re keen to flash your fancy footwork on
the pitch, there’s a range of local leagues and amateur football clubs.
One of the oldest leagues in the country is based in York. The York and District Leeper Hare Football League was founded in 1897 and today the league has more than
50 clubs covering the whole of York.
Ladies are not left forgotten with The Connexions
York Girls Team competing in three different
leagues. Girls who are resident in the City can compete
in the following leagues: under 12s, under 14s and under
16s. There’s also the York City Ladies
team who play, and often win, in the Yorkshire
and Humberside League Premier Division. |
