Dance in York |

 |
You’re in for a toe-tapping time in York with a
range of dance venues and genres on offer. Sit and watch
or get involved in a wealth of dance opportunities.
York runs an annual Dance Festival.
The week long festival takes place in early June and
is a showcase of the very best local amateur and professional
dance companies in the region. This is the perfect opportunity
to watch and try out a range of dance styles from ballet
to break-dancing and body-popping to belly dancing.
If you’re keen to see what’s happening in
the world of dance a visit to York Theatre Royal [map] should be high on the list. The theatre at St Leonard’s
Place offers a range of dance-orientated productions and
has a particular commitment to finding the best new talent.
The theatre regularly gives space to famous York contemporary
dance company Phoenix.
Visit The Grand Opera House [map] to see touring productions and amateur dancing.
If you want to get involved yourself get down to the Milonga/Practica at Guppy’s club [map],
Nunnery Lane, York, for those who like to tango. Bring
a partner or go solo for a fun evening. Tuition isn’t
available here but it is a regular haunt of some of the
best teachers in the region.
Get the gear and look professional with a visit to Linfoot [map],
on Walmgate, who have a range of dance wear for tango
and beyond.
