Budget Restaurants in York |
 |
 |
York is
a popular student city and this means a large selection
of value-for-money eateries.
You can go for the traditional and reliable discount meals
at places such as Wetherspoons [map],
Piccadilly, and Pizza Hut, which has three restaurants
in York, but if you hanker after something a bit different
there’s a range of independent restaurants available.
The Willow Restaurant [map] is centrally located on Coney Street in the heart
of the city centre. This Chinese buffet was on the go
long before the current lot of trendy buffet-diners sprang
up and maintains traditional quality at low prices.
For a party atmosphere check out Toto’s [map],
located on the fringe of the city centre at Fawcett Street.
Toto’s has a very popular happy hour where pizza
and pasta are available cheaply. It gets crowded so get
there early to ensure a table.
Hop over to Swinegate and King’s Castle [map] which is a more traditional café offering
a variety of coffees and sandwiches on a shoe-string.
Varsity [map] is a swanky pub based at Lendal. Here you’ll
find a range of discounted food as well as a wide selection
of bottled beer and cocktails.
If you’re a student you really can’t go wrong
at Bella Pasta [map], Low Petergate, which offers a huge
50 per cent discount on certain days of the week on production
of a Student Union Card.
If you want to combine your meal with a pint or two, The
Crosskeys [map] on Goodramgate has a “specials” menu
that’ll ensure you have enough pennies left for
several beverages.
For a takeaway snack Brill Food [map],
Bootham, is the perfect place to pick up a baked potato
or sandwich cheaply.
