With
free parking now banished from the city centre and car
parks increasingly full, it’s good to know that
there’s a range of buses on hand to get you from
A to Z in York.
There is no central bus station in York so buses department
from various locations around the city.
There are four park and ride sites operating in
York. They allow you to travel by car to the designated
area (usually an out of town site) and park your car for
free in a safe car park.
Buses are modern and frequent and operate a low fare
with up to two accompanied children under 16 travelling
free.
Timetables are easy to read and buses have specific
colour-coded routes.
The park and ride sites are located at: Rawcliffe
Bar, Grimston Bar, Askham Bar, and McArthur Glen Designer Outlet.
National Express coaches drop off their passengers
in Rougier Street, which is close to the city centre,
the rail station, numerous local and regional bus stops,
and a taxi rank. National Express connects York with many
destinations throughout the UK, as well as several ports
and airports, either directly or changing at a larger
centre. From York you can get to Leeds, Bradford, Birmingham,
Manchester, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Nottingham, Edinburgh,
Heathrow Airport and London, and also onwards to Europe.
