 |
Whether you’re a fan of ballet, tap, or top musicals,
you’ll find everything to entertain and inspire
you in West London.
If you can’t decide what kind of genre to go for
head to The Riverside Studios [map],
Hammersmith, which is a unique arts and media centre located
on the banks of the Thames in Hammersmith.
With two main performance areas and a designated workshop
space there’s plenty of dance to see. From large
touring productions to international visiting artists
and world-renowned dancers holding workshops, this is
the place to learn or simply watch some top quality dancing.
Take a breather in the large contemporary café/bar
and terrace.
Get in on the action by signing up for a class at The
Cosmopolitan Jive School [map],
Ealing Town Hall, New Broadway, Ealing. This is one of
the oldest Jive schools in London and it has a great reputation
for offering Modern French Jive.
Modern French Jive [map] – or MFJ –
developed in France largely from Rock and Roll but with a greater emphasis on style and interpreting
the music, as a result MFJ is a more enjoyable and stylish
form of partner dancing. So grab your other half and head
to The Cosmopolitan Jive School.
Go for a passionate alternative at Bar Cuba [map] , High
Street, Kensington. There’s classes during the early
evenings and then it’s all about showing everyone
what you’re made of and taking to the wooden dance
floor to show off with some freestyle salsa moves. There’s
also a restaurant above Bar Cuba so you can satisfy your
appetite after classes.
Learn something new by signing up to the many Bhangra
classes in West London. One of the best is called Bollywood Dance Course [map] and is held at Balderton Street. Bhangra dancing combines
a creative mixture of poses, grace, hand movements and
expressions that are an integral part of Bollywood performing.
One of ballet's most important schools is also located
in West London.
The Royal Ballet School [map],
Talgarth Road, Barons Court, trains and educates outstanding
classical ballet dancers for The Royal Ballet in
Birmingham and other top international dance companies.
This dynamic company often has revues and performances
for members of the public and is a great place to see
talent of the future.
