When the lights go down across London the best nightclubs
heat up and whatever you’re into you’ll find
somewhere that suits you to have a boogie, listen to some
wicked beats, or groove on down.
The Winning Post [map] , Chertsey Road, Twickenham, was established in 1992
as the premier place for rhythm and blues, jive and big
band swing. The dress code is smart and the place is jumping
every Tuesday night when Rock ‘n’ Roll comes
to the fore with DJs and dancing. Put on your blue suede
shoes and get ready to party.
Get bang up to date on all the latest chart hits and commercial
dance with a visit to Oceana, Clarence Street. This venue
has five huge bars, two nightclubs and a restaurant. Music
varies from dance to R’n’B, hip hop, disco
and pop. Also expect to see some superstar DJs hit the
decks during the summer and winter months.
With a programme as varied as the community surrounding
this venue, The Notting Hill Arts Club [map],
Notting Hill Gate, is the perfect place to boogie, no
matter what you’re into.
If indie’s your bag, check out Deathdisco [map],
at the Notting Hill Gate, where Alan McGee and Danny Watson
serve up some cool alternative tunes. Previous guest DJs
include Courtney Love – lead singer of Hole and
Kurt Cobain’s missus – Tim Burgess of The
Charlatans’ fame, The Datsuns, and Mercury Rev.
For deep and funky house check out irregular night Lazy
Dog at Notting Hill Gate which features resident DJs Ben
Watt and Jay Hannan.
Head to where the beautiful people hang out at Cherry
Jam [map],
Porchester Road.
This new DJ bar brings together top labels, producers
and celebrity guests, but it’s definitely substance
over style as there’s plenty of quality music on
offer here too.
During the week Cherry Jam hosts a number of cool events
including multimedia nights and literary evenings. Visit
here while you still can, Cherry Jam is sure to be packed
with fruity clubbers before too long.
For a laid back night out check out Ginglik [map],
Shepherds Bush Green, which is located in a former public
toilet. Don’t be put off by this idea though as
Ginglik is stylish and ambient offering an interior inspired
by local artists. Ultra-friendly staff are on hand to
ensure you enjoy a wide selection of music and alcohol.
On Tuesdays the place is transformed into an award-winning
and hugely enjoyable comedy club.
