Finding something
to do on an evening or on a rainy day isn't difficult
with the wealth of fun to be had in West London.
Have fun at Ginglik [map] , Club on the Green, Shepherds Bush Green, which is
a funky nightclub during the weekends and changes gear
on a Tuesday when some of the areas best comedians come
together for Laugh. This venue, which was once a public
toilet, provides a great place for a giggle.
See an art house or independent film at one of the country’s
oldest cinemas by paying a timely visit to The Electric
Cinema [map],
Portobello Road. Sit back in one of the comfiest chairs
or double sofas you’ll ever experience, and enjoy
the magnificent Edwardian décor. You might also
see some familiar faces as this cinema is particularly
popular with big players from the British and European
film industry.
Live music fans will be in seventh heaven with the range
of venues and events on offer.
See some of the world’s best music at The Shepherds
Bush Empire [map],
Shepherds Bush Green, which offers a programme of rock,
pop, alternative and acoustic gigs.
Those with more refined tastes should check out Hyde
Park [map] which plays host to some fantastic outdoor events
including Proms In The Park when the BBC Orchestra
and other talented musicians come together in what must
surely be one of the best classical events in the world.
If you prefer smooth beats and low lights check out Ronnie
Scott’s [map],
Frith Street. The undisputed premier jazz club has been
around for more than 40 years and continues to dominate
the scene with a programme of new and exciting music,
as well as some famous stalwarts.
Dress up for a night at the theatre and choose from dozens
of excellent places to catch the latest drama, musical
and touring production.
Visit the glorious West End or discover one of
the fabulous smaller theatres dotted around this area.
The Lyric Hammersmith [map],
King Street, has enjoyed something of a renaissance during
the past few years and now boasts an impressive programme
of exciting new drama. Recent productions have included
1984 and Shockhead Peter.
History buffs will feel right at home in West London.
With several major museums on your doorstep there’s
plenty of different experiences to choose from.
Get a flavour for London’s interesting past with
a visit to The Gunnersbury Park Museum [map],
Gunnersbury Park, Popes Lane. This former home to the
Rothchild family is an excellent example of a 19th century
mansion and offers a splendid selection of displays including
toys, costumes and local history. The Victorian kitchens
