As you’d
expect from a place with as much history as Stratford-Upon-Avon,
there’s plenty of interesting and unique independent
shops that have been in the same families for generations.
If you’re looking for high street names you’ll,
of course, be able to enjoy designer fashions and homewares,
but venturing into some of the smaller shops really is
worthwhile in this area.
Broadway Bears and Dolls [map],
High Street, Broadway, will be of particular interest
to bear and doll enthusiasts and collectors, as well as
the young and young at heart.
Here you can see some of the oldest, smallest, largest,
fattest and most unique bears in the world, as well as
visiting the ones with sore heads who can be found in
the bear hospital.
Collectors can purchase bear outfits, hats and footwear,
as well as a whole range of memorabilia.
On a similar theme The Ragdoll Shop [map] on Chapel Street is sure to delight your tiny tot as this
shop sells gifts and toys from the Ragdoll Production
Company, who are responsible for the Teletubbies,
Tots TV and Rosie and Jim.
If you’re looking for some more grown up past times
head to Bottoms Up [map] on Wood Street, a must for wine lovers.
Find a wine from the other side of the world and if you
like it, why not purchase the whole case? There’s
a mammoth selection on offer here and dedicated drinkers
can even join the Bottoms Up membership club to take advantage
of discounts and special offers.
Land Tobacconists Ltd [map] on Henley Street is one of the few places in the UK that
still offers loose tobacco. Wonder at the selection of
pipes on offer or indulge in a hand-rolled cigar if you’re celebrating a special occasion.
