Theatre In Stratford-Upon-Avon |
 |
 |
When it comes to theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon, as you’d
expect, locals take their dramatic connections very seriously.
The Royal Shakespeare Theatre [map] can be found at Waterside, and is home to the world-famous Royal Shakespeare Company (or RSC).
The theatre was built in 1879 but much of it was destroyed
by fire. However, the theatre was rebuilt in the 1920s and parts of the original building are still evident
making for an unusual structure combining German gothic
architecture and Art Deco glamour.
The second auditorium, The Swan Theatre [map], is a replica
of the kind of theatre one could expect to see in Shakespeare’s
lifetime. Seeing a play here is a must for an authentic
experience, but there’s also guided tours that
take you backstage and show you the mystery and magic
surrounding this theatre.
You could also head over to The Spa Theatre [map] in Leamington Spa, where you’ll find a diverse
programme of entertainment incorporating everything
from talent shows, talks, tribute bands, musicals and
films in the single cinema.
