Whether you fancy strutting your stuff or watching the
experts in action, there’s a range of dance venues
and events in South East London.
Every year thousands of locals and visitors flock to
Croydon to take part or watch the annual Croydon
Summer Festival, which involves a large number
of entertainment venues in the area. Audiences enjoy
an eclectic mix of some of the best musicians, entertainers
and dance performances in the region.
Watch some of the biggest names in dance at touring productions
throughout the year, taking place at The Southwark
Playhouse [map],
Southwark Bridge Road. The current programme includes
a range of familiar faces performing on stage. Alternatively,
check out the best in ballet and contemporary dance at The Broadway Theatre [map],
Rushey Green, Catford Bridge.
If you fancy getting involved and keeping fit whilst
having fun there’s a range of classes in the area
for beginners right through to professional dancers.
The Greenwich Dance Agency [map] offers a range of dancing from across the globe, so whether
you’re into Hungarian folk dancing or Swing dance
you should find something to get you on your feet. The
Dance Agency is based at Royal Hill, Greenwich.
Experience a different vibe with the critically-acclaimed Nzinga Dance Company which offers a
variety of Caribbean cultural dance workshops for women
in the Deptford area.
The Laban Centre [map],
Laurie Grove, offers professional training and productions
covering a wide selection of dance genres. Writers, choreographers,
dancers, designers and health professionals use the Laban
Centre as a base for a large number of courses and information
sessions and there’s also a big studio theatre that
hosts a season of culturally diverse productions.
