Most travellers to South
East London begin their journey at Waterloo
Station.
From here there is access to a number of main tube
lines as well as rail links to Brixton Station, Greenwich Station and Lewisham.
Tube lines take you to Bermondsey, North Greenwich and Deptford
Bridge as well as into the City and Central London.
Take the Jubilee Line to the fashionable emerging
shopping district around Bermondsey Street or get there
by taking the Bus 343 or RV1 from Waterloo.
As with most of London, taking a car anywhere in South East London is just not cool. The
air quality in London is at an all-time low and people
are being encouraged to use public transport or cycle
and walking routes.
Boroughs like Lewisham operate good cycle routes and the council
website can give you access to online maps.
Places such as Bromley suffer from
extremely high congestion and the council is working
hard to address this. Bromley has 50 miles of cycle
route and across London there is an initiative
to get from A-Z using cycles. Get fit and healthy by
hiring a bike from one of the many cycle hire companies
in South East London. Southwark Cyclists offer discounted cycle purchase and cycle hire information.
Visit the official
site for more information on how you can improve
your health.
Bromley Council offer freedom bus passes for those over 60 and people with disabilities.
Croydon operates a Tramlink service and runs between Wimbledon, Beckenham, and New Addington.
Croydon and Lewisham, amongst many other London boroughs,
operate a Taxicard scheme for people
with serious mobility problems. Those wishing to use
this service order their taxi and mention their Taxicard,
they will then only be charged a nominal fee to travel
with up to four companions. More information on this
is available from the Taxicard
website.
Trains run regularly from Orpingham
and Lewisham to all of London’s major stations
including Waterloo East, Victoria and Charing Cross. You can use one
of these lines to link up to London Victoria and catch the Gatwick Express to Gatwick
Airport. |
