Romantic in Sheffield |

When the light of
love is in your eyes, even if it’s only just a glimmer,
then a romantic night for you and your partner once in
a while is a must. And whether you live in Sheffield or
are just passing through, the city offers plenty of opportunity
for you to engage in some amorous activities.
Probably the most significant point about romance is that
it’s not all about what you do but who you do it
with, but if you did want to make the effort to do something
special, here are some suggestions.
One of the easiest ways to inject a little romance into
your love life is to treat your partner to a special meal
at one of the city’s top restaurants. Restaurants
like the Blue Room Brassiere [map] and the Brasserie
Leo [map] offer good food in upmarket surroundings.
While restaurants like Nonnas [map] and Ranulphs [map] offer a charming atmosphere for delicious dining.
Taking time out to spend the afternoon or the day with
your partner is another way to show you care, and there’s
plenty for you to do in Sheffield.
If your partner likes culture and the arts then head to
the Cultural Industries Quarter. Here you’ll
find plenty of artwork to discuss from the variety at
the Millennium Galleries [map] to cutting edge pieces at the Site Gallery [map].
Alternatively you could take in an independent movie at
the Showroom [map] and then discuss its merit over coffee.
Going to the theatre to see a play is another option and
you may be able to get standby tickets for performances
at The Crucible [map] or the Lyceum Theatre [map], if you’re hoping to be spontaneous.
If that fails why not organise a picnic and a romantic
stroll in Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens [map]. Even if your partner isn’t green fingered,
the beauty of the flora and fauna is sure to inspire.
Or, if the weather is not so fine then you could move
your stroll indoors to the Winter Gardens [map].
Depending on how adventurous your partner is you may want
to learn some new activities together. For those who really
like a physical challenge then why not try bouldering
at the Edge Climbing Centre [map] off Bramall Lane or The Foundry [map].
Or for something slightly less extreme, you could try
a circus skills course at the Greentop Community Circus [map],
or a ballroom dancing class at one of the local
dance schools.
If you think speed will make the heart grow fonder, then
you could try go-karting just outside Sheffield in Mexborough
at the Avago indoor karting centre [map],
or go skiing or snowboarding at Sheffield’s Ski
Village.
If you are making a weekend of it then one of the most
important things will be where
to stay. The place you choose will send a clear message
to your partner, so choosing somewhere both you and your
partner will love is a must. If you want to say how much
you care with money, then choose one of the city’s luxury hotels.
The Sheffield Hilton [map] is a good option if you want to treat your partner
to the high life, ask for one of the suites overlooking
the cobbled courtyard for that extra touch. Alternatively
if you want the classy, contemporary look without breaking
the bank then the Hotel Bristol [map] might be better.
However, for a cosy place for two that shows you’ve
really made the effort you could opt for a houseboat
hotel [map].
Ruby is docked on the Sheffield canal and sleeps just
two people. You can spend the evening being gently rocked
while looking at the stars and thinking romantic thoughts
in your secluded accommodation. But make sure your partner
doesn’t get easily seasick!
