There are times when only the best will do, and if you’re considering
eating out in Sheffield there are a number of restaurants in the city
that aim to be a cut above the rest. Whether you’re looking for plush surroundings, great food or both, Sheffield has restaurants to suit a variety of tastes. Probably Sheffield’s best fine dining restaurant is the Michelin starred Old Vicarage Restaurant [map] in Ridgeway Village. If modern bistro style dining is your thing then why not book a table at Richard Smith at Thyme [map]which is listed in the Bib Gourmand recommendations for good food at moderate prices. Formerly Smiths of Sheffield this restaurant has been revamped to offer an upmarket dining experience. Although the restaurant is mainly classed as modern British, you will find that other culinary influences are evident. The food here is fine but affordable with fish commanding a special place on the menu. Also offering contemporary dining is the Blue Room Brasserie [map], a Modern European restaurant housed in a former Chinese restaurant. The Chesterfield Road venue now sports a more refined image with a stylish interior and a large menu that draw flavours from around the world. Whatever your culinary persuasion there’s sure to be enough on the menu for you to have a satisfying experience. Brasserie Leo [map] is a restaurant attached to the Charnock Hotel, but attracts diners from miles around. While the dark wood and brass décor may strike visitors as traditional, the ever changing menu, which features dishes like blackened venison and sautéed king scallops, shows that this restaurant is by no means old fashioned. You can be sure of good food made from quality ingredients if you choose this restaurant for your fine dining. The Beauchief Hotel [map] on Abbeyface Road in south Sheffield, also has its own quality restaurant attached. Well known locally for its excellent food and service, if you’re looking to impress this could be the eatery for you. The bright interior welcomes you in and from then on you should enjoy one of the best fine dining experiences Sheffield has to offer. For great Italian food you have a couple of options. Probably the most well known Italian restaurant in Sheffield is Nonnas [map]. This restaurant has a loyal following that return time and again for traditional Italian dishes like linguine and merluzzo, with affogato (a miniature chocolate cake) for dessert. Italian pizza and pasta dishes can also be found at Pappa Ciccio [map]. This cosy restaurant serves some truly delicious food. The atmosphere may be more suited to an intimate evening for two but if you like good food then this should certainly be an option. If you’re dining out with vegetarians but are not a vegetarian yourself and want somewhere where you can both enjoy a good meal, why not try Vijays Indian Restaurant and Cocktail Bar in the city centre. Behind the glitzy façade, you’ll find a comfortable restaurant with a large menu, which has a wide range of meat curries and a decent selection of vegetarian options.
