When the thought
of staying in one of England biggest cities fills you
with tension, don’t forget there’s plenty
of open countryside around. In fact, half of the city’s
population live within 15 minutes of open countryside.
If you want to take advantage of the delights of Sheffield
without being stuck in the greyness of the city check
out what’s available in terms of country accommodation.
If you’re looking for fresh air and freedom then
why not book your place at the Mill Lane Farm Cottages [map].
Here you’ll find two luxury places to stay, Mill
Lane Cottage and Orchard Cottage, which give you the
freedom of being in self-catering accommodation and the fresh air that comes with being close to the
Peak District.
Although the thought of staying in a converted cowshed
may not sound like five star accommodation, you’ll
find that Mill Lane Cottage [map] has all the modern conveniences you’ll need with
a fully equipped kitchen, two furnished bedrooms and
a spacious lounge that offers beautiful views across
the valley. While the cosy two bedroomed 18th century Orchard Cottage offers a similar standard of
living with views across the Peak District.
Located within easy reach of all that the city has to
offer, Tankersley Manor [map] is definitely an option for those needing nature and
nurture. This 17th century stone accommodation provides
guests with a four-star room in which to rest,
an on site restaurant in which to dine and a spa and
a leisure centre to rejuvenate and relax city
weary bodies and minds. There’s also the opportunity
to enjoy some more lively entertainments without leaving
the hotel, as there are regular theme nights and tribute
evenings to enjoy.
Surround by 20 acres of gardens and woodland, Whitley
Hall [map] is another accommodation option where you can wake up
amidst vibrant greens rather than city greys. This residence
has 19 en suite country style rooms and an on site restaurant
with an excellent reputation. It is also a popular wedding location for civil marriages as it combines
history, beauty and excellent service.
Also set in its own gardens, the Mosborough Hall
Hotel [map] offers guests excellent views across the local
countryside. The building is believed to have royal
connections, with the oldest parts dating back to
medieval times, and this adds to the eclectic feel of
the place. The rooms come in a variety of sizes and
decors, some furnished with four-poster beds,
however all rooms are en suite.
If you’re looking for a more homely feel to your
accommodation then why not try the Underleigh House
bed and breakfast [map] in Hope Valley. All rooms in this converted cottage
and barn have stunning views across the countryside
and this B&B is great for those who love to enjoy
the outdoors. All rooms in this fully non-smoking accommodation
are en suite and breakfast is enjoyed around the large
oak table in the dining room from 8:00am.
The Rambler Country House [map] can be found in the pretty village of Edale, close to
Edale train station and within easy reach of many natural
attractions. As the name suggests the area is popular
with walkers and ramblers because it is close to the Pennine Way National Trail and the Peak District.
But even if you are not a rambler you should still find
just enough here to keep you occupied during your rural
getaway.
