DOCUMENTARY Festival |

This festival, at the Showroom Cinema [map], is one of the UK’s leading media events and is both a public film festival and an industry gathering dedicated to documentary.
It provides a fertile ground for industry networking and is also a platform to promote the very latest in documentary film to members of the public.
Dating from the early 1990s, the festival has become a leading forum for independent producers, commissioners, television company executives, academics, students and up-and-coming filmmakers. It features documentary master classes, workshops, and a multitude of films from all over the world.
More than 75 films were shown at the 2004 festival, which saw some of the biggest names in documentary cinema screening their latest works.
As well as screenings, a series of master classes from leading figures in the industry gives newcomers some expert advice about the changing world of television, while a pitching competition offers budding directors the opportunity to have their idea commissioned.
Introduced in 2004 was the £3,500 Jerwood First Cuts Documentary Award for student documentary makers.
The festival’s social events and on-site bar offer a relaxed atmosphere, whether you want to simply enjoy the films or make new contacts and forge new collaborations.
The Sheffield International Documentary Festival is where all levels of the industry come together to explore, experiment and reinvent the documentary genre. |
