If you’re planning to visit Plymouth by train then you’ll be pleased to know that Plymouth Train Station [map] is conveniently located just a few minutes walk away from the main city centre attractions.

These days the high-speed trains can get you from almost anywhere in the UK to Plymouth, with the journey from London taking just over three hours.

First Great Western is the main operator providing services to and from London Paddington hourly, Monday to Saturday and every two hours on Sundays. Most trains from Paddington call at Reading, Swindon and Exeter before arriving in Plymouth.

Virgin Trains also operate services from Plymouth to Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol, while Wessex Trains offers services around the Devon and Cornwall area to destinations such as Exeter and Penzance.
