The Morning After in Plymouth |

If you need something
to ease an aching head or just fancy a hearty breakfast
before heading out for the day you’re in luck because
Plymouth has plenty of cafés that cater for early
birds.
For a start there are a wealth of fast food restaurants
including McDonalds and Burger King, which offer breakfast
menus with plenty of fat.
But if you’re looking for a proper full English
breakfast in funky surroundings then head for the Gorge Café [map] on Royal Parade, which is the ideal place to find a hangover
cure. With cool orange décor and comfy seating,
this place serves a good breakfast menu, including the
Mega-breakfast, which is obviously huge. The café
also offers tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milkshakes and
soft drinks.
In the midst of the city’s main tourist area you’ll
find Hobbs Chocolate and Coffee House [map] on Old Town Street, where you can sit back on plush
sofas and enjoy a steaming hot mug of coffee along with
a baguette, jacket potato or cake. This place, which is hugely popular with the morning after crowd, opens
at 7.30am so even very early birds can get some welcome
relief from the night before.
One of Plymouth’s best-loved eateries, O’Brien’s
Irish Sandwich Bar [map] is just up the road from here and offers a good breakfast
menu, which includes bacon and cheese bagels and a hot Irish breakfast.
If you can’t face a fry-up but want to enjoy a continental
breakfast in nice surroundings then head for the Canadian
Muffin Co [map] on Armada Way, where you can pick up chocolate muffins,
sandwiches, pastries, fruit smoothies, tea and coffee,
and soup. Vegetarians are also well catered for
here, with a hearty vegetarian soup, baked potatoes and
a variety of baguettes and bagels.
Finally, if you're willing to head out of the city centre
then get along to the Saltash area, where you’ll
find the Windy Ridge Eating House [map],
which offers everything from a bacon sarnie to a massive USA Steak Breakfast.
