| If you’re
a keen golfer then make the most of your trip to Plymouth
by heading to one of the top golf courses in and around
the city.
Set in picturesque countryside one mile from Plympton, Elfordleigh Golf and Country Club [map] is an 18-hole woodland course. It has a separate
practice area and visitors are welcome everyday. You can
also enjoy meals in the Country Club bar.
Alternatively there's Staddon Heights Golf Club [map] in the Plymstock area of the city, which has a cliff top
course overlooking Plymouth Sound. The 18-hole, 5,845
yard green is a par 70 course.
For those planning a family golfing day it maybe
easier and more cost effective to opt for a pay as you
play course, such as the one at Sparkwell Golf Club
[map] in Plympton village centre. This 9-hole parkland course is a par 68 and has its own pitch and putt practice
area. After you’ve played a round, you can sit back
and relax in the restaurant and bar.
Finally, set in 450 acres of beautiful countryside but
just a stone’s throw from central Plymouth, St
Mellion Golf Club [map] is undoubtedly one the finest golf resorts in the West
Country. Here you’ll find two 18-hole championship
courses - the legendary Nicklaus Course, designed
by the great man himself, offers a challenging day for
the more experienced golfer, while the scenic Old Course
offers a gentler alternative for those new to the game.
