If you’re
on a tight budget then make the most of Plymouth’s
cheap and cheerful accommodation and save your pennies
for the food and sightseeing.
For those heading to the city during the summer months,
a room at one of the university’s halls of residence
may be the perfect money-saver. The University of Plymouth
[map] opens up its city centre halls to the public
from mid-June to mid-September, which provides tourists
with budget accommodation close to the action.
Located in the Randnor and Pilgrim halls of residence
on Gilweil Street, the Plymouth YHA [map] offers single bedrooms with washbasin during the summer
months. Breakfast and evening meals are provided in the
dining room, while other facilities here include a café,
common room, sauna and swimming pool.
Situated locally on Citadel Road in the Plymouth Hoe area
of town, the Plymouth Backpackers International Hostel
[map] offers similar accommodation to the YHA, but has dormitory-style
rooms.
If you’re looking for guesthouse-style accommodation
with home from home comforts then check out Westwinds
[map] on Citadel Road, a traditional B&B with one if the
cheapest tariffs in town.
Other budget B&Bs that may also be worth trying include Mariners Guesthouse [map] on Pier Street, where a warm welcome is promised,
and Tudor House [map] on Citadel Road, where most rooms are en suite and all
have a TV and tea/coffee-making facilities.
Alternatively you could opt for the outdoor life and stay
at one of the caravan sites around Plymouth, such
as the Southleigh Caravan and Camping Park [map] in the Modbury area, which boasts a heated outdoor
pool, bar, showers and dishwashing facilities.
