See things in a different light by checking out the delights
on show at Plymouth’s unique and fascinating art
galleries. Whether you’re into fine art, photography or local contemporary art, there’s
a venue in this city ready to take you into a whole new
world.
The city’s main art centre is Plymouth City Art
Gallery [map] on Drake Circus, which has an ever-changing exhibition
of work, including plenty of paintings from their maritime
collection. There are also regular exhibits by regional
artists.
For contemporary art and digital media head to the Plymouth
Arts Centre [map] on Looe Street, a hugely popular centre with an art-house
cinema. The gallery here holds regular exhibitions
of art, photography and sculpture by local and regional
artists, many inspired by the southwest coast.
Next up is the Atlantic Gallery [map] on Armada Way, which houses a collection of paintings
by the best local artists in the West Country.
Amongst them is work from well known Plymouth artist R.O.
Lenkiewicz and Devonshire wildlife artist Robin
Armstrong.
To see more of Robert Lenkiewicz’s work why not
pay a visit to his own gallery, the R.O. Lenkiewicz
Gallery [map],
on The Parade. He has selected the collection to represent
his changing face as an artist from his early work to
present day masterpieces.
Finally, for a regularly updated display of contemporary
and traditional art exhibitions head to the ArtFrame
Gallery [map] on Old Town Street, which has work by popular artists
including Adam Barsby, Louise Fox, Tony Goffe and Sir
William Russell Flint.
