Guide To Oxford |
 |
 |
Oxford offers a
cultural heaven to many of its visitors and is really
making its mark on Britain.
Oxford is to be named the Centre for Culture 2008 but festivities are due to start earlier, with a party
atmosphere in 2005 and two years later the Oxfordshire
International 2007 festival taking to the fore.
This year-long celebration will focus on all the things
that make Oxfordshire special, including music and poetry,
literature, the promotion of the English language and
the beauty of the natural environment.
2007 should see an explosion of cultural activity in the region and a whole host of events, exhibitions
and performances, on both a large scale and at more intimate
venues.
While you’re waiting for these festivities to kick
in you could always enjoy the many galleries in the Oxford area.
The X-Change Gallery has played an influential part in
the lives of many contemporary Oxfordshire artists. The
gallery exists specifically to show the work of local
artists, in the field of crafts, exhibitions of artwork
and educational activities.
The building was formerly part of the Oxford Corn Exchange [map] and the gallery now provides a centre for the exchange
of ideas between artists and the local community.
