Shopping in Norwich |
 |
 |
Voted one of the top 10 shopping destinations in Britain, Norwich
has a fantastic mix of modern high street stores, independent
retailers and a historic market, making it a haven for
those seeking a little (or even a lot of) retail therapy.
For small individual shops selling a wide range of local
souvenirs, crafts and antiques head to the ancient
thoroughfares of Bedford Street [map], Bridewell Alley [map], Pottergate [map] and Elm Hill [map] in the medieval part of town. These old cobbled streets
intertwine with the heart of Norwich’s pedestrianised
shopping area on London Street and St Stephen’s
Street, where you’ll find modern high street and
designer stores.
Mixed in with the antique shops and funky boutiques are
a number of coffee shops and sandwich bars, which provide
welcome refreshments and somewhere for shoppers to rest
their aching legs!
Not far from the hustle and bustle of the city’s
shopping streets is the Castle Mall [map],
which is home to popular chain stores such as H&M,
Boots, Early Learning Centre, New Look and Oasis. The
shopping centre also has a restaurant, café, cinema
and ample car parking.
In addition to all this, Norwich is also home to the county’s
largest outdoor market [map],
which is open six days a week and has more than 200 stalls
selling everything from clothes and bags to seafood and
ice cream.
The market has been part of city life since the Norman
invasion and still remains as popular as ever, with thousands
of shoppers flocking here every year.
And for those of you who like to quite literally shop
‘til you drop then it’s worth noting in your
diaries that there is late night shopping in Norwich
every Thursday, all year round.
