There are a number
of local libraries in Norwich, which are all run by Norfolk
County Council and offer residents, visitors and traders
a wealth of information, books, videos and Internet access. To make the most of the facilities you need to be a member of the library service but luckily it’s very easy to join. All you need to do is pop into your nearest library with two forms of identification (i.e. a passport and driving licence) and you’ll receive your membership card. Situated on Millennium Plain, Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library [map] is the city’s main library, which has a number of departments including a children’s section. This library has more than 120,000 books for hire, along with numerous videos, CDs, DVDs and audio books. There are also 85 computers that can be used for word processing spread sheets, email and Internet access. Also situated in The Forum building, next the library is the Norfolk Heritage Centre, which offers visitors a wealth of information for researching their family tree or the history of Norwich. And for something a little bit different head to the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library on the ground floor of the library, which was founded in memory of the American servicemen stationed in Norfolk during World War II. This section houses a collection of materials about American culture and World War II. Local libraries around the Norwich area, which have computers with Internet access and word processing programs include Mile Cross Library [map], St William’s Way Library [map] and Aylsham Library [map]. Norfolk County Council also operates 13 mobile libraries, one of which takes in the Norwich area. |
