Theatre In Norwich |

After a hectic day’s sightseeing it’s time
to sit back, relax and be entertained at one of Norwich’s
top class professional or amateur theatres.
As you’d expect from East Anglia’s capital
city, Norwich offers a wide range of innovative and contemporary
dance and drama mixed with the theatrical classics.
Perhaps the city’s most well known venue, the Theatre
Royal [map] on Theatre Street, plays host to touring musicals, dramas,
operas and ballets, along with cabaret and comedy nights.
You can also see some great displays of contemporary dance,
drama and music at the Norwich Playhouse [map] on St Georges Street, which is also the new home of Cinema
City arts cinema.
Meanwhile, the Maddermarket Theatre [map] on St John’s Alley is a thriving amateur theatre
that stages a wide range of top quality productions in
magnificent Shakespearean surroundings.
The Sewell Barn Theatre [map] and the University of East Anglia Studio Theatre
[map] also offer a variety of amateur contemporary performances for theatre lovers.
For something altogether different why not pay a visit
to the Norwich Puppet Theatre [map],
which is one of only two puppet theatres in the country.
Located in a former church, the theatre provides a base
for the Puppet Theatre Company, which creates and
presents a programme of performances for children and
adults alike. On occasions, the theatre also plays host
to touring companies from the UK and abroad.
