Bars in North West London |
 |
 |
Whether you want
to get your alcoholic fix by day or by night north west
London as a range of bars to support your drinking habits.
If you were to think of a bar that would capture the essence
of a typical Camdenite then the Mac Bar [map] would be it. With all the style of a trendy wine bar but
with the relaxed feel of your local, the Mac Bar is a
popular drinking den throughout the week. Whether it’s
a boozy afternoon or a top night on the town, you should
probably have this Camden bar on your list.
The surroundings may be a little grim but Monkey Chews [map] is a great little find. As you approach this Camden pub
you may think better of a visit, but once inside you’ll
find it cosy but eccentrically decorated, which you’ll
probably want to keep going back to. The laid back ambience
combined with the comfy chairs and the cheap cocktails
make this the place to go to be out, but chilled out.
For drinking the traditional English way you should give The Holly Bush [map] pub a try. Dating back to 1643, this is one of the oldest
pubs in London which has managed to avoid being converted
into a contemporary drinking den. The low ceilings and
collection of small rooms give this place that cosy glow
which you tend to crave in winter but in the spring/summer
when ‘leafy’ Hampstead comes into its own,
you can enjoy alfresco drinking in a picture perfect setting.
However, if you want to avoid those pesky celebrities
while you’re enjoying your pint or pina colada,
then you may want to go somewhere other than the Sir
Richard Steele [map] pub and The Engineer [map]. But if
you do you’ll be missing out on two great north
west London pubs.
At Belsize Park’s Sir Richard Steele [map] pub,
you’ll find a buzzy but relaxed atmosphere and possibly
the occasional famous face. The décor is far from
contemporary chic but this doesn’t stop the locals
from making the most of an evening there with a pint or
two.
Gastro pub The Engineer [map] tends to attract people
for the gastro rather than the pub, but neither part can
be classed as anything less than fine. The décor
is classy, the food is top quality and it still manages
to inspire the words cosy and cheerful – what more
could you want?
