London’s
‘square mile’ isn’t the only area
in the capital for business activities. If you got to
the north west of the city you should find places for
your business-related requirements.
The square mile, or the City (as it is also known),
are terms used to describe London’s inner sanctum
which has traditionally been the business hub of the
capital and the country, home to mainly financial businesses
and supporting law companies.
However, as London has grown beyond this business and
historical centre and so too have the numbers of hotels and venues geared towards the business traveller.
Although the City remains a business centre, London now
has an added business district in Canary Wharf [map] which is home many large companies including HSBC, Bank
of America, KPMG and Chevron Texaco.
North west London is close enough to both these dedicated
business centres to make staying there a viable prospect
for when attending meetings or conferences in central
or east London.
Getting to north west London from one of the capital’s
five airports is probably best done
by taxi. Although this is not the cheapest option you
will be sure to get to your destination on time with
the minimum of hassle.
If you are travelling via the UK train network then
you will probably want to head for Euston [map] one of the capital’s 10 main stations. Euston
will give you a direct connection to the Northern and Victoria tube line as well as access
to the Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan and Circle lines from Euston
Square. Taxi and buses are also readily available
from the station.
In terms of a hotel for residential meetings and conferences
the Hampstead Britannia Hotel [map] could
be a perfect choice. The hotel’s six conference
rooms can accommodate up to 300 delegates with packages
available to suit a variety of events. This boutique
hotel also offers fine food, comfortable accommodation
and high-speed wireless Internet access – everything
business travellers need.
The Bernard Shaw Park Plaza [map] and the luxury Landmark Hotel [map] are also well equipped
to deal with business travellers and meeting locations.
Brondesbury Park Hotel [map],
offers accommodation and conference facilities in a peaceful
corner of north west London. This hotel, located near Wilsden Green tube station, conference facilities
for up to 250 and also has women-only accommodation available.
With its garden setting and alcohol free policy, you are
sure to find this a comfortable hotel for business activities
and post-business relaxation.
For business information while you are in London the centrally
located City Business Library [map],
is a leading source with specialist collections for
the traditional city sectors of taxation, insurance, finance,
and investment commodities. They also provide a fee based research service.
