Shopping in North London |
 |
 |
Shopping comes
in a variety of types, there’s food shopping, bargain
hunting, clothes shopping, window shopping…. and
in north London you can indulge in all these and more.
If you’re serious about shopping in north London
then head to Islington for everything from market stall
bargains to exclusive high fashion boutiques.
Just round the corner from Angel tube station is N1
Islington [map],
a shopping centre which features the likes of Sephora,
Size? and Mambo alongside high street stalwarts such as
Gap and Next. The complex is also home to bars, eateries
and a cinema so if you spend your taxi fare on shoes you’ll
still have plenty to keep you entertained before the last
bus leaves.
Those who prefer fresh air and a little banter while they
relieve themselves of cash should make their way to Camden
Passage [map].
Although the name suggests that it’s in north west
London’s eclectic Camden area, it is actually in
Islington and has been for more than four decades.
Camden Passage is renowned for its antiques and over the
years the area has become home to around 350 traders selling
a wide variety of items including porcelain, prints and
clocks. However there are also places to buy jewellery
such as Leolinda, fashions from yester-year at Cloud Cuckoo
Land and Annie’s vintage clothes and at the nearby
Rockarchive Gallery you can start your collection of digital
prints.
For a more conventional market experience you could try
the vibrant Chapel Market [map] close to Angel tube station. Expect to find fresh fish
and vegetables, African foods, clothing and plants on
the stalls, as well as some bargains in the stores and
junk shops nearby. The market is open Tuesday –
Sunday from 9:00am.
Over in Wood Green (N22) you’ll find Shopping
City, a shopping centre featuring over 100 speciality
stores. The complex also plays host to a 12-screen cinema,
boutique stores and a 60-stall market.
North London is also a celebrity hangout, so as you take
to the shops of Broadway in Muswell Hill and Crouch End
looking for Indian cushion covers in Indish [map] keep an eye for stars from the small screen!
And if you’re feeling adventurous, you could make
your way to Stroud Green near Crouch
End where you’ll find Roxanne (on Stroud Green Road),
a store which sells French Connection and Nicole Farhi
seconds. Or you could venture to Tottenham where amongst
the Caribbean clothes stores you’ll find Krypton
Comics one of the best comic shops in the area.
