Dance in North London |
 |
 |
Movement to music… we all do it, some more embarrassingly
than others, but rarely do we mortals exude the grace,
elegance and professionalism you see when dance is performed
on the stages of north London.
Soon north London will see the opening of a brand new
purpose built cultural centre in North Finchley which
will be a focus for dance in Barnet. In the meantime those
looking to watch dance on stage still have access to The
Bull Theatre [map],
which has been relocated to this north Finchley spot.
Over the years dance productions and performances have
graced the programme at The Bull Theatre and been well
received. The relocation of the venue will mean more space
in a fully accessible building allowing the art form to
be seen by more people.
The other venue to see dance in north London is Hoxton
Hall [map].
Beginning life as a 19th century music hall, it is now
a multi-arts facility that believes itself to be “at
the forefront of cutting-edge theatre, dance, music, film,
cabaret, new media and visual arts” and so is a
great place to see dance productions in N1.
For those who would rather try to attain the elegance
of a dancer themselves, there’s the London Studio
Centre [map].
They are very proud of their reputation for preparing
people for performing careers but do have evening classes
and summer programmes for those serious about dance.
If you still would like to try dance, but take a more
light hearted view of your abilities and what you think
you can achieve, then why not take part in some of the
sessions at the Jackson’s Lane Arts Centre [map].
As well as classes in tap, ballet and so on, they also
have dance as part of their showcase, so once you’ve
finished your lesson you could get a chance to see how
it should be done!
