Culture
Guide To North London |

Finding culture
in the capital is not something that anyone will find
difficulty with, but when it comes to north London where
do the culture vultures prey?
Well… in September 2005 a new arts centre will open
in Barnet, equipped with two state of the art theatres
as well as studio space. This is likely to become the
focus of arts in the area but in the meantime you’ll
find those seeking culture in the following venues…
In terms of the performing arts north London has a variety
of theatres to choose from. There’s the Millfield
Theatre [map] for more mainstream options, while Jackson’s
Lane arts centre [map] fields an eclectic mix of productions
for audiences to enjoy. Meanwhile those who would rather
take in the delights of dance should head for the Bull
Theatre [map].
For those who find pleasure in pictures, the area does
have a number of art galleries to visit. Probably the most renowned in north London is
the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art [map] at
Canonbury Square. Other notable galleries in the area
include the Art Space Gallery [map] and the Victoria Miro Gallery [map].
Other ways to get cultural satisfaction would be to visit
one of the museums or historic
buildings in the area. Lauderdale House [map] may give hunters the best of several worlds as the 16th
century mansion house plays host to art exhibitions and
classical music concerts as well as being of historic
interest itself.
