Libraries in Newcastle |
 |
 |
There are several
libraries in the Newcastle area so if you need information,
if no one else can help, and if you can find one, maybe
you should consider a trip to the local library.
Of course libraries in Newcastle, like libraries elsewhere
in the world, have a wide variety of books for you to
read for pleasure or use for research on a range of diverse
subjects.
However many libraries have evolved from just being large
literary lockers to being centres of information access
that use a range of methods to help you find out what
you want to know. And at City Library in Newcastle you
will find a wealth of information in a variety of forms.
City Library [map],
located on Princess Square, has four floors of knowledge
that can be used by any member of the public. This library
boasts a family history and genealogy room, a digital
theatre, a children’s library and a local studies
library as well as having books, CDs, videos, DVDs and
free Internet access.
To use most of the library’s facilities you just
need to turn up and walk in, however if you want to borrow
books or multimedia items, or if you want to use some
of the computers, you will need to join. Membership
is free and you just need to take along some form
of identification with you that shows your name and address.
Newcastle’s City Library can be found close to the
Monument Metro station with entrances on New Bridge Street
and John Dobson Street.
As well as the main library, Newcastle also has 17 branch
libraries. These are spread across the Newcastle area
and many offer similar facilities to the main library
in terms of access to books, music, films and computers.
A few of the other libraries in the area include:
