Money may not be
able to buy you love, but it can buy you the best of Newcastle
accommodation.
If location is key to your choice of luxury hotel, then
the perfectly placed Copthorne Hotel [map] could be your ideal. Its quayside location means you’re
not far away from the city action and it’s just
eight miles from Newcastle Airport. As well as boasting
all the facilities and service you’d expect from
a top city hotel (including disabled access rooms), practically
every room comes with a breathtaking view over the River
Tyne and its impressive bridges.
One of the most luxurious hotels in Newcastle is located
on the outskirts of the city not far from the A1. The Marriot Gosforth Park [map] is set in acres of woodland and inside, as well as four
star rooms, it has the Park Restaurant which boasts two
AA Rosettes for fine food and a good range of leisure
facilities, including gym, tennis courts, swimming pool,
sauna, solarium and squash courts in addition to beauty
and hair salons. This is one of the top hotels in Newcastle
and it’s easy to see why.
Considering itself to be the North East’s hippest
hotel, the stylish Malmaison Newcastle [map] seems to have little competition for the title. The quayside
building began life as a warehouse but is now one of the
city’s swankiest hotels boasting individually decorated
rooms, sumptuous spa and French style brasserie. If you
want to be close to the city’s daytime thrills and
night time spills then this is the place.
Seventeen miles west of Newcastle is the swanky but scenic Matfen Hall [map].
This 19th century country house has all the facilities
you need for a luxury retreat not too far from the city
centre. The hotel itself is plush without being pretentious,
the grounds are lush, complete with an 18 hole golf course
and in 2004 the hotel opened a spa and leisure complex
on site. What more do you need from a luxury place to
stay?
For the height in short term luxury living Slaley Hall
Hotel [map] should more than reach your expectations. This hotel exudes
Edwardian elegance at every turn from the jacuzzi fitted
suites to the restaurant dining overlooking one of the
championship golf courses. If it's unadulterated luxury
you want, and are willing to pay for, then this will probably
be perfect.
