Comedy In Newcastle |
 |
 |
Take a ride on the clouds of comedy and experience highs
of hilarity by taking in a comedy performance in the city
on the Tyne.
One of the North East’s premier venues for comedy
is the Hyena Comedy Café [map].
Located in Haymarket near the universities, the crowds
here can be pretty mixed but the entertainment is usually
top notch. Sketch shows and stand-up all feature on the
entertainment menu, including nationally recognised comics.
For a bit of Edinburgh Fringe in the North East head to
a Funny Bones event. Here you’ll get plenty
of funny for your money, as shows consist of two well
established acts from around the world as well a couple
of up-and-coming comedy stars. In Newcastle, Funny Bones
holds a regular event at The Cornerhouse Hotel [map] on Stephenson Road, as well as one-off events at other
venues across the city.
You can also find comedians reeling in the laughs with
their punchlines at the two main performance venues in
the city, Newcastle City Hall [map] and the Theatre Royal [map].
Many great comedians have graced these stages and in the
past year acts including Bill Bailey and Ross Noble have
added their names to the list.
Customs House [map] in South Shields also caters for comedy fans, with talent
shows for those who like to spot the next big thing, and
events like Jongleurs On The Road if you like your
performances more polished. In addition Newcastle Opera
House [map] feature comedy performances as part of their offerings
to the public.
And every year there’s more comedy than you can
shake a stick at, packed into just over a week at the Newcastle Comedy Festival. This year
the event takes place in October and will be an outdoor
extravaganza with the cream of the comedy crop being supported
by local craft stalls, street entertainers and a food
village.
