Budget Accommodation in Newcastle |
 |
 |
Although Newcastle
is a major UK city you'll find that there are several
options for accommodation if you are on a budget. From
upmarket hotels offering discounts out of season to hostel
style accommodation that offers little more than a bed
for the night.
One of the cheapest options for accommodation in the Newcastle
area is the local youth hostel in Jesmond. Situated
in a town house close to the local Metro Station and Northumbria
University campus, this hostel has around 60 beds offered
as dormitory–style accommodation (although private
rooms may also be available if required). The Jesmond
YHA [map] is popular but only opens at weekends and is closed
from Christmas to February, so it is important to book
in advance rather than just turning up. As an added bonus
for those on a budget the hostel serves breakfast and
cheap evening meals.
Further afield in Hexham the Youth Hostel Association
has two other hostels, Orchard House [map] and the Once Brewed Hostel [map].
The Once Brewed Hostel is close to Hadrian’s Wall
and can get noisy but it does have accommodation suitable
for families, while Orchard House is popular with those
wanting to take advantage of the local outdoor pursuits
i.e. cycling and cross country skiing.
Another budget option to consider is the student halls
of residence at the University of Northumbria [map].
During student vacations in the spring/ summer, they offer
cheap B&B style accommodation.
Chain hotels like the Travel Inn [map] and Travel Lodge [map] offer a comfortable standard of hotel living without having
to fork out too much. Newcastle has a hotel from each
of these chains, offering the benefits of hotel accommodation
but for a price that shouldn’t break the bank.
When considering a budget option it may also be worthwhile
to check out the Bed and Breakfasts and Guesthouses as they
can provide an affordable accommodation option, with many
offering breakfast as part of the price.
