Budget Restaurants in Newcastle |
 |
 |
When
it comes to eating out on the cheap, Newcastle can offer
you a world of culinary wonder for that final five pound
note in your wallet.
The key to eating out on a budget in Newcastle is timing.
Many restaurants which, at first glance, could be out
of your price range, have happy hours and lunchtime deals
that will enable you to sample the cuisine for a fraction
of the cost.
Uno’s [map] is one such example, a Quayside restaurant popular with
celebs that has happy hour pizza and pasta that can cost
less than a bottle of beer! Marco Polo [map] on Grey Street is of a similar ilk, with a lively in-house
atmosphere you can get pizza and pasta dishes for under
£4. If you like this type of food there’s
plenty of cheap deals to choose from as Sabatini’s
[map] on King Street and La Riviera [map] in Gateshead also have pizza and pasta happy hours.
If your passion lies in Indian food then you certainly
don’t need to be discouraged by your lack of funds,
as there are a number of places offering Asian flavours
on the cheap. Salaam Bombay [map] has a Halal all-you-can-eat buffet, and while it may not
be Halal, Bavarche [map] on Gallowgate also has an all-you-can-eat option.
Rupali [map] on Bigg Market is where you can find some of the less
expensive curry dining in Newcastle. This is particularly
true if you manage to complete the Curry Hell challenge
as you get your meal for free – but as the name
suggests this is not the easiest of tasks…you have
been warned!
In terms of Thai food, both Numjai [map] under Nexus House and Thai Siam [map] on Stowell Street have a range of bargain bites if you
pick your moment carefully, lunchtime and early evening
are your best bets.
Lunchtime is also the best time to visit Fujiyama Japanese
Restaurant [map] as they have lunch deals available for under £6.
While for a hearty helping of the Orient, Lau’s
Buffet King [map] is the place to be. As the name suggest, you can get a
right royal feed here, and there are even student discounts
available for further price reductions.
For something slightly out of the ordinary but still less
than £10, you can try the Kublai Khan [map] buffet. The discount price is only available on Sunday
and Monday, but you’ll be able to sample from a
range of Chinese and Mongolian flavours that should satisfy
curious tastebuds.
