Bars in Newcastle |
 |
 |
If you’ve
an appetite for ale or a craving for a cocktail, Newcastle
is a great place to quench your thirst, as pubs and bars
are scattered across the city like confetti at a wedding.
This is particularly impressive when you consider that
Newcastle is really quite compact, which means, if you
can still manage to put one foot in front of the other
after the first drinking hole, there’s a wealth
of bars within walking distance.
Bigg Market has traditionally been the place to
head for on a night out, and although the Quayside now rivals the area, it still has more than its fair share
of alcoholic hotspots.
For Bigg Market fun you could try the Pig and Whistle
[map] or the Yel Bar [map] on Cloth Market, both are lively and loud with plenty
of girls. Ladies will probably enjoy a drink (or seven)
at the Ram Jam Inn [map] as the action here is geared towards the fairer sex.
If you want to ease yourself into your evening then you
may want to take in a drink at the cosy Blackie Boy
[map] or the historic Old George [map],
but to be honest a quiet pint will probably be out of
the question if you’re out on the weekend.
Moving uptown from Bigg Market to the city centre you’ll
find even more alcoholic haunts. Huxters [map] and the Fluid Bar [map] are the city centre’s resident sports bars, so if
a bit of sporting action helps your beverage go down,
then these are the places to try. While for those who
prefer a little extra flava with their drink could try
the funky Fusion or the smooth Trent House Soul
Bar [map].
Up at this end of town you’ll also find The Gate
[map] complex with enough bars to keep you undercover for
the whole night. Mood [map] is well known as one of the best in Newcastle and has
the poll winning acclaim to prove it. This large, modern
bar mixes music and drinking on most nights, but also
has a big screen so sports fans don’t miss out on
their night out.
Located on Newgate Street, The Gate [map] is also home to the trendy twosome of Tiger Tiger [map] and Hide [map] and also the ‘Coyote Ugly’ styled Sam Jack’s.
Downtown from Bigg Market are the riverside beverage beauties
of the Quayside. To take advantage of the classy side
of Quayside drinking try the Stereo [map],
considered to be one of the coolest venues in town, Casa
[map] , for cheap cocktails with a bit of chic, or the surprisingly
civilised Crown Posada [map].
Other Quayside highlights include Chase [map],
for those Sex and the City types, Jimmy’s [map],
the footballer’s friend, and the upbeat Quilted
Camel [map].
These are just some suggestions for place to grab a beer
or a cocktail when you’re out in Newcastle, however
there are so many for you to try you’re bound to
have lots of fun discovering your favourites. Happy Drinking!
