Getting
to Newcastle using the UK's road network is one of the
most straightforward trips you can do, as it is conveniently
close to the premier north-south road, the A1.
The A1 goes virtually from London in
England right the way to Edinburgh in
Scotland, and many people find that Newcastle is a great
place to stop when they are doing that particular journey.
From the South East, take the M25 which leads directly
onto the M1. Once on the M1 signs will direct you straight
into the heart of Newcastle, bearing in mind that the
M1 becomes the A1 just north of Leeds.
If you are travelling from the west of the UK then the M5 and the M6 will take you north, you can
then take the M62 west to join the M1 which
becomes the A1. And from Carlisle you can take A689 and then the A69 to take you to the North East's
unofficial capital.
In terms of getting away there’s plenty of places
of interest nearby which are within easy driving distance
of Newcastle. Gateshead, Sunderland, Berwick-Upon-Tweed
are all close by with their own unique offerings and there’s
also the unspoilt beauty of Northumbria’s countryside,
ideal for a day of outdoor pursuits.
As well as the other towns and cities of the North East,
York, Leeds and Manchester are all within day trip distance. |
