GO Business Travel in Newcastle

Business Travel in Newcastle Upon Tyne Although Newcastle is renown for its lively Geordie revelry, this is not all the city has in its favour, and if you’re a business traveller you may be surprised by what this north eastern capital can offer you.

The city itself, one of the finalists for the UK Capital of Culture, has an industrial heritage it is proud of, and an innovative spirit which has helped the city to rank against some of its European counterparts.

Travelling to Newcastle for business should be a straightforward experience because the city is so well integrated into the national transport network. The city has its own international airport [map], which connects to many European cities but is located just 15 minutes drive from the city centre. Trains connect Newcastle to all the major towns and cities in the UK, while the efficient local metro system links Newcastle to all the local towns as well as the airport and ferry ports.

Once in Newcastle you’ll find the city itself comfortably compact with everything you need, somewhere to stay, places to eat and places to work, all within easy reach.

The main business areas are based around the Quayside, Grey Street, Grainger Street and the city’s two universities where the city's key industries, financial services, media, advertising and education, are centered.

In terms of somewhere to stay Newcastle has several four star options for you to choose from close to the city centre.

Conveniently located on Newcastle’s Quayside, The Copthorne Hotel [map] is a popular choice with business travellers, who can make the most of the hotel’s location close to transport links and the city centre, in addition to its four star facilities. As well as a restaurant, bar and leisure club, this hotel can also offer business travellers executive rooms each with a view across the River Tyne.

Just six miles from the airport and within easy access of the city, The Newcastle Marriott Hotel [map] (Gosforth Park) is another option for business travellers.

As well as providing comfortable accommodation, the hotel is well equipped for business functions with conference and banqueting facilities for up to 600 people as well as free parking.

Many of the city’s hotels have facilities for business meetings, however there are some other options. The Quayside Business Development Centre [map] is a grade II listed building that can hold up to 50 delegates in theatre style rooms, as well as having smaller training rooms available.

Slightly further afield Longhirst Hall [map], set in acres of woodland, has 18 meeting rooms for business purposes and their fully equipped business centre includes video conferencing.

And by early 2005 The Sage Gateshead [map] is set to make its mark for business locals and tourists. The site will accomodate 2500 sqm of exhibition space as well as conference space and up to 30 break out rooms, ideal for larger company get togethers.
