GO AIR

Air Travel in Newcastle Upon Tyne Newcastle is thought to be the regional centre of the north and as such has all the transports links you need to get there or away.

As a significant city in the north of England, Newcastle does have its own airport located just six miles north west of the city. Newcastle International Airport [map] is an integral part of the city’s transport links and as such is well connected by road and rail.

In terms of getting there by car it takes just 15 minutes from the centre of Newcastle. To get to there by car, drivers will need to take the main north-south road, the A1, until it links with the A696, this road leads directly to Newcastle International.

If you need to park at the airport, then short and long-term car parks are available, but need to be booked in advance to guarantee entry. The car parks are fitted with an award winning security system so your vehicle should be safe. Once parked you will need to use the free coach service from the car park to the terminal building, but this service does run 24-hours a day.

Travelling by public transport could prove to be a more efficient way of getting to and from Newcastle International. The airport links directly to the city centre via the metro’s green line, as well as to Gateshead and South Shields. Metro trains for the airport leave approximately every 15 minutes with a journey time of just under half an hour.

If you would rather travel by bus, then services leave throughout the day from Newcastle city centre. There’s a service from the MetroCentre Bus station [map] in the early part of the day. There are usually only around four of these services a day and the journey takes around 90 minutes. You could also take the bus from Eldon Square, the service from here runs every 30 minutes during the day and continue on into the evening.

Although the airport was built 1935 with not much more than a grass runway and a club house, today you’ll find Newcastle International an airport worthy of the 21st century. Over the years it has undergone more than £30 million worth of refurbishment so now the site has more runways, shops, restaurants and business lounges all on site.

And when you want to leave Newcastle for your summer holidays or winter getaway, Newcastle airport can get you directly to destinations as far flung as Florida as well as to most capitals across Europe.

Newcastle is approximately:
55 mins from London
1 hour from Dublin
1 hour 15 mins from Paris
2hrs 30mins from Barcelona
