Sandwich Bars in Manchester |
 |
 |
If you’re
on the move or just feeling a little peckish, pay a visit
to one of Manchester’s sandwich bars and take time
out to recharge your batteries. Whether you want a luxury
coffee, a midday snack or afternoon tea, they are all
catered for in the city and its surrounding districts.
Shoppers who need a pit stop to rest their aching feet
should head to Café Provence in the Royal
Exchange complex on St Ann’s Square. This colourful
little café has a selection of sandwiches,
baked potatoes, soups and salad along with various tea,
coffee and fruit juices. The seating spills out onto the
main covered walkway so you can watch the world go by
while you recuperate from a hard morning’s shopping.
Situated close by on Cross Street is another excellent
coffee shop, Caffe Nero [map],
which offers a wide range of snacks, sandwiches and pasta
dishes. It does tend to get very busy at peak times but
offers an accounts and express service so people can book
in advance.
Conveniently located near Piccadilly train station yet
remaining close to the hustle and bustle of the city centre, Zest [map] is a funky café with a reasonably priced menu.
There is a small seating area so you can enjoy their offerings
of bagels, pastries, soups and sandwiches on the premises
or take them away if you’re on the move.
For a taste of proper coffee and cake made the Manchester
way, head to Java Bar Espresso [map] on Oxford Road, which is the original branch of a quickly-expanding
local company. There are other branches and kiosks dotted
around the city, including one at Victoria train station
and Java’s specialist coffee is a favourite among
many locals and city workers.
Other similar coffee bars located around the city centre
include well-known chains Pret a Manger and Starbucks, which can be found in
the Deansgate area.
If you’re looking for deli-style food at a chic
café-bar then why not try Breeze [map] on the centrally located Peter Street. Here you’ll
get a great selection of foods from appetisers to main
courses, which are served all day along with the bar’s
speciality cocktails.
For traditional English afternoon tea in charming surroundings,
head out of town and into the classy district of Didsbury,
where you’ll find Bumbles Tea Rooms. Situated
on an old cobbled street this wonderful little teashop
comes complete with low wooden-beamed ceilings and was
featured in the English Tea Trail book. It offers a generous
selection of home-cooked dishes, such as lamb hotpot with
pickled cabbage, and there are some wonderful homemade
cakes for dessert.
