Manchester maybe
the favourite city in the North for the rich and famous,
but staying here doesn’t have to cost you a fortune.
There’s plenty of bargain accommodation to be had
in and around the city centre, so why not try these for
starters.
If you’re looking for clean, simple accommodation
with a friendly atmosphere then why not try the Imperial
Hotel [map] on Hathersage Road on the outskirts of the city centre.
Rooms start at as little as £22 per person per night
and all are equipped with hairdryers, coffee and tea-making
facilities and a television, while the hotel is just a
10-minute walk from attractions including the Manchester
Museum and Whitworth Gallery.
Just outside of Manchester city centre in the leafy suburb
of Monton you’ll find the Monton House Hotel
[map] , where rooms are available from £30 per person
per night. Built in a modernised Victorian building, the
hotel offers basic rooms with en suite bathrooms, telephones
and Internet connection, and coffee and tea-making facilities.
It is situated a short drive from the fantastic Salford
Quays and Lowry arts centre and is only 15 minutes from
the city centre.
Located close to Manchester United Football Club in the
Old Trafford district of Manchester is the Beaucliffe
Hotel [map] on Eccles Old Road, which boasts a TV lounge, bar and
restaurant. Rooms start at just £30 a night and
come fully-equipped with a telephone, TV, radio, and coffee
and tea-making facilities.
Another hotel that is ‘cheap as chips’ is
the Bourneville Hotel in the trendy village
of Didsbury, which is just five minutes from the city
centre. The accommodation is comfortable with a third
of the rooms having en suite facilities and all having
radios and hairdryers.
But for a real cheap trip to the city join the Youth
Hostelling Association and book yourself a bed
at Manchester’s Youth Hostel. The
pupose built hostel on the beautiful canal-side Potato
Wharf in Castlefield is close to most of the city’s
main attractions, including the Science and Industry Museum,
Manchester Art Gallery and the bars and clubs on Deansgate.
Family rooms are available here as are breakfast, a picnic
lunch and evening meals, while there is also a TV room,
lounge and self-catering kitchen and washing machines.
So no matter how tight your budget you can find a decent
place to stay in Manchester without missing out on the
city’s many attractions.
