If
you’re looking for a great place to eat in Manchester
that doesn’t cost the earth then you’re in
luck because there is an array of top quality restaurants
and cafés at rock bottom prices.
Whether you’re after Chinese, Indian, Tapas or
just good old-fashioned English cuisine, you can find
great extra-value meals in and around the city centre.
A great place to find a bargain is Chinatown, where many
eateries offer early bird offers and all-you-can-eat
buffets, including the No 1 Oriental Buffet Restaurant [map].
This hugely popular venue sticks to the all-you-can-eat
philosophy, which has proved a hit, particularly at lunchtimes
with office workers and shoppers. Offering over 60 different
starters, main courses and sweets from various types of
Chinese cuisine, including Cantonese and Peking, there
is always plenty of choice. The prices are very reasonable
with lunchtime deals at around £5.50 that go on
to 4:00pm, Happy Hour deals for around £6.50 till 6:00pm
and then the evening the £8.50 Grand Buffet takes
over.
For superb Italian food in a trendy restaurant head to
the family-owned Est Est Est [map],
which has a chain of eateries in Didsbury, Bury and Merseyside
as well as in the city centre. Situated close to Piccadilly
this restaurant has a comprehensive menu and offers everything
from pizza to speciality chicken dishes, all at very reasonable
prices.
One cuisine that you can make as cheap or expensive as
you like is tapas, and there are plenty of tapas bars
around Manchester. The most well known is probably La
Tasca [map],
situated on Deansgate, which has a good tapas menu plus
a choice of paellas for under £10 per person. There
is also an extensive wine list, which is very reasonably
priced.
For simple traditional English food at great prices why
not try one of Manchester's many pubs and bars like Moon
Under The Water [map] on Deansgate, which serve a selection of bar meals. As
part of the famous Wetherspoons chain this pub offers
great burgers, steaks, sandwiches and a choice of international
foods.
Other pubs that serve reasonably priced food include Walkabout [map] and the Slug and Lettuce [map] in central Manchester.
And if all else fails you can always go to one of the
many McDonalds, Burger King and KFC fast food chains
dotted about the city or visit the famous Curry
Mile in Rusholme to pick up a kebab.
