Great manchester run |

Started in 2003,
the Great Manchester Run has quickly earned itself a reputation
as one of the UK’s top mass participation sporting
events. A large proportion of participants come from outside
the North West, many bringing their families and supporters
to enjoy the multi-faceted attractions of this thriving
city. Top athletes and fun runners from all over the country and abroad, as well as local residents, charities and the business community, take part in the 10km (6.25-mile) run. The Great Manchester Run takes place in May each year and you're sure to see a star-studded line-up in amongst the thousands of fun runners. In the past Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and Hollyoaks stars have taken part in the run, to name but a few. A total of 20,000 runners took to the roads of Manchester for the 2006 run, raising many thousands of pounds for charity. The run is believed to have achieved a notable first in 2003 when it became the first mixed participation running event in the UK to achieve full integration, with 50 per cent of entries coming from women.
