Whether you’re
sightseeing, shopping, or on business, recharge your batteries
by popping into one of Liverpool’s many sandwich

For a light lunch that you can eat in or take away, there are a vast range of one-off sandwich shops around the city centre including, Lunchtime and Mangetout, both on Castle Street [map], and the Granary Sandwich Bar on Drury Lane. But if you want to grab a hearty sandwich then try the famous O’Brien’s Irish Sandwich Bar [map] on Castle Street, which offers a wide ranging menu that includes a Chicken and Bacon Tripledecker and Salmon and Cream Cheese bagel. This sandwich bar also sells great soups and Irish stew, along with the more healthy options of green salad and pasta. Tired shoppers will soon be feeling revived after a trip to Starbucks [map] in the heart of the city’s shopping area. With five or six tables inside, a couple more outside, and plenty of window seats, you can relax and put your feet up while enjoying a delicious coffee, sandwich or dessert. Another great place for taking a well-earned rest, especially if you’re vegetarian, is the Egg Café [map] on Newington Street. Here you’ll find yourself in cool surroundings as the café also operates as an art gallery, with a number of original pictures on the whitewashed walls. There's also a copious supply of newspapers to catch up on the day’s events, while you enjoy a sample from the wide range of vegetarian dishes and tempting desserts. For those who just love to watch the world go by, the Soul Café is a great haunt, with daily specials such as buy a baguette and get a free tea or coffee. You can people-watch through the huge windows or take in the soul music from the in-house radio station. If you like to combine your lunch with a bit of star spotting, then head to Coffee Union [map] on bustling Bold Street, where you may see a few famous faces. As well as featuring every flavour of coffee possible, this trendy café has an extensive menu featuring some great panninis such as mozzarella, sundried tomatoes and basil, and French Brie and bacon. Other sandwich bars which could be worth a try if you’re close by are Maymans [map] on Water Street, Bocadillo [map] on Richmond Street and Richmond Sandwich Bar [map] on Rose Place.
