It may be home
to some of Britain’s rich and famous but a city
break in Liverpool doesn’t have to cost the earth. With its wealth of budget accommodation, including hotels, hostels and university accommodation, you can make your stay in the city as cheap as you like. So if you’re looking for good quality accommodation without paying top-notch prices then there are a variety of cheap but cheerful hotels to choose from. For a central location why not try the Lord Nelson Hotel [map], which is conveniently located next to Lime Street Station. The hotel is simply decorated, has clean rooms and is a popular place to stay among travellers. There is also a bar and restaurant on site serving reasonably priced meals. For a base outside the city centre but close enough to all the major attractions why not book your room at the Parkfield Manor Hotel [map], which is located close to Sefton Park. Along with all the essential facilities you’d expect, the clean and comfortable rooms are available in a variety of sizes with plenty of space for larger families. If you’re on a very tight budget and want to save your cash for entry to the many tourist attractions, then why not spend your nights in a hostel. There are a number to choose from in the heart of Liverpool, including the Embassie Independant Hostel and the International Youth Hostel. The Embassie Independant Hostel [map], which is located on the edge of the central shopping area, is a large Georgian terraced house and is suitable for groups or individuals over the age of 16. As well as laundry facilities and a self-catering kitchen, the hostel also offers free tea, coffee and toast from the kitchen all day. Located just a short distance from the Albert Dock, the central International Youth Hostel [map] is a new purpose built establishment providing up-to-the-minute facilities. Instead of the usual large dormitories found in many hostels, you will find a series of pleasant rooms with three, four or six beds. Family rooms are also available and cots are provided on request. In addition to the self-catering kitchen and laundry services, the hostel also offers evening meals and alcoholic drinks. If you’re planning on visiting Liverpool during the summer months then why not make the most of the city’s university budget accommodation. The Liverpool John Moores and Hope universities offer an economical alternative to hotel or B&B accommodation. Available from June to the end of August, both establishments offer self-contained self-catering flats for individuals, groups or families. Located on the Cathedral Park Campus [map], the Liverpool John Moores accommodation has spectacular views of the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, while Hope’s apartments are set in Hope Park [map], the pleasant 38-acre student campus. More student accommodation is available at Victoria Halls [map] at Hatton Garden, which also has flats available to rent during the summer months.
