Liverpool
may be a city that attracts the rich and famous, but there
are plenty of eateries locally where you can enjoy fine
food at a bargain price. Always a winner when you’re hungry and short of pennies is an ‘all you can eat’ Chinese buffet, and there is a good selection of those in Liverpool. Located opposite Lime Street station at the front of St John’s shopping centre, May Sum [map] serves a buffet with a choice of more than 40 Chinese dishes every day of the week. Or you can try Liverpool's original 'eat as much as you like' Chinese buffet at Tsos Restaurant [map] on Queens Square, which has been open since 1994. It seats up to 180 people and you can choose from a selection of more than 50 dishes, making this restaurant a popular venue for parties and functions. Orchid Spring [map] on Paradise Street is a smart Thai restaurant that also offers good special discount menus for business lunches and early bird dinners (between 5:30 and 7:00pm). If it’s fine English cuisine you’re after then why not try Owens [map], which is situated on Childwall’s Five Ways roundabout. It’s a traditional and relaxed restaurant serving a mixture of modern British and French food. It also features a Mad Monday menu where you can get two courses for a bargain set price all night long. Another well priced eatery with a great reputation for good food is the Everyman Bistro [map], located in the basement of the Everyman Theatre. It offers fine English food at cheap prices and has been serving the people of Liverpool for more than 20 years. For cheap but delicious home cooked food try The Brook Café in the Quiggins Centre on School Lane, which provides a welcome break from city stresses throughout the day and into the evening. To enjoy halal cuisine then head to Master Chef [map] on Renshaw Street in the city centre. It’s very well priced but you will need to take your own beer. Finally, if it’s a taste of Italy you’re looking for then Villa Romana [map] is a great place to try with its authentic Italian décor and excellent food, including reasonably priced pizzas and pasta.
