The ‘Square
Mile’ or the City, as it is also known, describes
London’s inner sanctum – a square mile that
begins in EC1 - that has traditionally been the business
hub of the capital and the country.
Although the City remains a business centre, London now
has an added business district in Canary Wharf, which
is home to many large companies including HSBC, Bank of
America, KPMG and Chevron Texaco.
Business travellers to the City or Greater London will
find a wide selection of facilities to take advantage
of.
Do everything under one roof with a visit to Excel [map] ,
London’s largest purpose-built event centre hosting
everything from business conferences to event halls and
auditoriums. Located at Royal Victoria Dock, Excel
is close to South East London and has good transport links
to the City. As well as offering seven hotels with excellent
business facilities, visitors can be sure that all the
media equipment and accessories they need for a conference
can be provided. If it’s time to take some time
out choose from a selection of good restaurants for your
business lunch or dinner.
One of the biggest and best conference centres in the
UK can be found at The Barbican Centre [map],
Silk Street. With facilities for more than 2,000
people there’s a range of conference rooms, theatres
and auditoriums to choose from.
Finding the perfect setting to introduce a product to
the world is often tricky, but many international professionals
turn to The Media Centre at The London Stock
Exchange [map], which is an exciting and unusual venue.
Planning to treat your workforce? Then check out Fabric [map] ,
Charterhouse Street, which offers a range of large
rooms for both corporate events and evening entertainment.
If you’re still looking for the perfect place to
host a conference there’s some excellent facilities
located in Greater London and the City.
Try The Mermaid Conference Centre [map],
Blackfriars, which is just metres from Blackfriars
Station. The main auditorium benefits from a 70ft deep
stage that can be set to revolve. There are also a number
of smaller function rooms.
For business information while you are in London the centrally
located City Business Library [map], is a leading source with specialist collections for
the traditional city sectors of taxation, insurance, finance,
and investment commodities. They also provide a fee based
research service.
Finding somewhere to relax after a series of meetings
and conferences isn’t hard with the wide choice
available in Greater London and the City.
Brondesbury Park Hotel [map] offers accommodation and conference facilities in a peaceful
corner of north west London. This hotel, which located
near Wilsden Green tube station, has conference facilities
for up to 250 delegates and also has women-only accommodation
available. With its garden setting and alcohol free policy,
you are sure to find this a comfortable hotel for business
activities and post-business relaxation.
In terms of somewhere to stay in the North the Hilton
Islington [map] is probably going to be the most convenient. The location
means that getting into the City or elsewhere in north
London should not be too difficult and with the suites
they have on offer you can have space to relax and space
to work all for the price of one room.
Finding a hotel that combines meeting facilities with
a place to put your business mind to rest in the East
End of London is easy. You might choose the Britannia
International Hotel [map].
This four star rated accommodation has its own dedicated
conference floor which means delegates can focus on the
job at hand without the distraction of everyday hotel
goings-on. Conference rooms vary inside offering space
for groups of five to 100, however for a large-scale events
the hotel is equipped to host a conference with more than
500 delegates.
Impress business colleagues and book them into The
Berners Hotel [map],
Berners Street, which is located just off Oxford Street,
in the centre of the commercial and entertainment district.
This elegant hotel was originally built in 1835 as five
classic houses and converted into a hotel at the turn
of the 20th century. The lobby proves the ideal meeting
place for a business breakfast and international travellers
are particularly impressed by the ornately carved Grade
II listed ceiling.
When it comes to eating out we recommend international
clients are taken to the West End to enjoy eating in style.
If you’re looking for the perfect place to hold
a morning meeting head to Carluccio’s [map],
Barrett Street, St Christopher’s Place, which
is a continental-style deli offering a relaxed and intimate
atmosphere. This little gem has a great reputation for
serving all kinds of Italian bread and a number of tempting
pastries, as well as some of the best coffees in West
London.
For business lunches and dinners go for a top quality
restaurant such as Hakkasan [map],
Hanway Place. Hakkasan is the only Chinese restaurant
in the country to have won a Michelin star, which is testament
to the quality of the food. With an extensive menu including
some real specialities and décor that is out of
this world, this is the perfect place for entertaining
and impressing important clients.
Levantine [map],
London Street, Paddington, is an authentic Middle
Eastern/Lebanese restaurant. Owner (Ahmed) Tony Kitous
already has one award-winning restaurant to his credit
and this newer venue is brimming with tempting food created
in a relaxed atmosphere.
