You’ll never be short of places to visit in Glasgow
as Scotland’s largest city is packed full of everything
from impressive old buildings and interesting museums
to beautiful parks and a stunning river.
To capture the city’s breathtaking architecture,
which won it the title of UK City of Architecture and
Design in 1999, visit the Medieval City, where
you’ll find Glasgow Cathedral [map] and Provand’s Lordship [map].
Another of the city’s great works of architecture
is the Kingston Bridge, which is Britain’s
busiest road bridge with 155,000 vehicles crossing it
everyday.
If it’s statues or quirky buildings you’re
after then there are plenty to choose from in this city,
such as the Duke of Wellington statue [map] and the Tolbooth Steeple [map].
There are also plenty of museums where you can delve in
Glasgow and Scotland’s past including the Museum
of Transport [map] and the Hunterian Museum [map].
For those looking to be entertained there is a wide range
of art galleries, theatres and concert halls to choose from, where you can see the
likes of the Scottish Orchestra and the Scottish
National Ballet in action.
To see how Glasgow has changed from a ragged town to a
trendy city make your way to the Merchant City [map],
which is now bustling with chic wine bars and designer
shops.
If you just want to chill out during your stay in the
city, why not take a stroll along the River Clyde,
where you have great views of the city and beyond. Alternatively
take a trip to the famous Botanic Gardens [map],
where you can wander through the tranquil park or pop
into Kibble Palace, a glasshouse full of tropical
plants. |
